Using Function Keys on CapeClocks

Required Level : Standard
Required Version : 3.25 or later

The CapeClock 128 and CapeClock 256 hardware have 5 programmable function keys. These keys can be used in lots of different ways to collect data from employees.  This document introduces the technique for programming these keys in TNA 4, using an employee changing job as an example.

  Configuration - part 1

First we need to create the sequences that will be executed when a button is pressed.  You can have a whole selection of sequences, and different clocks can use different sequences.

In the Configuration module, go to the Setup / Clocks menu and select the Function Keys option.

Click on Add.

Enter a description for this sequence.  In this case you could call it Change Job.

Now the goal is to build up the precise sequence of events that will happen when the user presses a function key.  When changing from one classification to another, we need to capture the employee who is changing, and the number of the new classification, as well as display sufficient prompting so that he does it right.  The final sequence looks like this.

Click on Ok to save the sequence.

Configuration - part 2

In the Configuration module, go to the Setup / Clocks menu, to the Clocks option.

Select the clock which will use this sequence and Click on Change.

Click on the Advanced tab.

Select the Key that will use this sequence.  Click on the ? next to that key, and select from your list of sequences.

Then Click on Ok.
