Changing clock times for Daylight Savings

Required Level : Lite
Required Version : 3 or later

Problem

In some countries / states Daylight Saving time is implemented. Twice a year the time on the clock needs to be changed to match the change in local time.

If you have a clock that supports automatic time changing (such as the CapeClock range of clocks) then you can use this approach. If your clocks do not support this feature, then use the manual technique described below.

Changing the time Automatically

Well before the time change is due to take place (we recommend at least 30 days prior to the event) do the following;

  1. Go to the Hardware module, Setup menu, Daylight Savings option.

  2. Enter the date of the change, and the time that it takes place. Then set the amount of the change (usually 1:00) and set whether the clock is moving forwards, or backwards.

For example a common change might be;

"On the last Sunday in October, at 2am, the clocks change back to 1am".

This translates as:
Date : 29 Sept 2005. (Notice that 2am that night is actually 2 am the next morning)
Time : 2:00
Change : 1:00 hour
Direction : Backwards

This information will be sent to the clocks before the actual change takes place, so the Server module does not necessarily need to be running at the time of the change.

Please note :

  1.  We highly recommend checking the clock as soon as possible on the following day to ensure that the right time is set. If the right time is not set them immediately follow the instructions below for manually changing the time on the clocks.

  2. The time on your computer is not affected at all by the TNA 4 software. You can change the time on your PC either manually, or by making sure that Windows is set to your correct region so that it knows about the time changes.

Changing the time Manually

To change the time on the clock manually do the following;

  1. Go to the Configuration module, Setup menu, Clocks option from the Clocks submenu.

  2. Highlight each clock in turn (if you have more than one) and click on the Set Date and Time commands option.

  3. Follow the instructions for setting the device time as normal.

Additional Information

As far as the Processor module is concerned, the change simply doesn't take place. This means that when the clock goes forward 1 hour the employees (working at the time of the change) will get paid for an hour of work they didn't do, and when it goes back by an hour they will work an unpaid hour.

You can adjust this manually if you wish, by adding (or subtracting) an hour from the affected employees.  The recommended technique for doing this is by using the Bulk Add Daily Hours feature in the User module.
