Installing TNA Server as a Service

 Applicable Version

TNA 4 version 4.00 and later

 Discussion :

A service is an application type that runs in the background and is similar to UNIX daemon applications. Service applications typically provide features such as client/server applications, Web servers, database servers, and other server-based applications to users, both locally and across the network.

 Prerequisites

  1. TNA 4 Sever can only be installed as a service on the PC on which the TNA 4 dataset has been installed.
  2. Services are started before network connections are made and will therefore not be able to connect to the dataset if mapped to another PC on the network.
  3. The PC operating system must be that of Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows Server 2000 or higher.

Installing TNA Server as a Service

  1. Install TNA 4 on the server PC and run the TNA Server from the Windows Start / TNA 4 programs group.

  1. Right-click on the Server icon in the Windows taskbar and select Restore from the pop-up menu.

  1. The TNA Server window will maximize, displaying the Servers option list in the left side panel.

  1. Select Options and the following three buttons will become available:
  1. Install as a Service

By selecting this option, the Server will be installed as a service. A window acknowledging the successful installation will be displayed.

If the Server has already been installed, an error window will be displayed confirming that a service entry could not be created.

Reboot the PC and TNA 4 Server will start automatically. Do not start the service via Windows Service Manager if TNA 4 Server is already running.

  1. Remove as a Service

By selecting this option, the Server will be removed as a service. A window acknowledging the successful removal will be displayed.

If the Server has not been removed an error window will be displayed confirming that a service entry could not be removed.

Reboot the PC to complete the removal of the service.

  1. Remove as a Service

This is a shortcut to Service Manager. You can use Services Manager to:

  1. Start, stop, pause, resume, or disable a service on remote and local computers. You must have the appropriate permissions to start, stop, pause, restart, and disable services.

  2. Manage services on local and remote computers (on remote computers running Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows NT 4.0 only).

  3. Set up recovery actions to take place if a service fails, for example, restarting the service automatically or restarting the computer (on computers running Windows XP or Windows 2000 only).

  4. Enable or disable services for a particular hardware profile.

  5. View the status and description of each service.
